How much 4K video fits in a shared album?

The size of a 4K clip depends on recording bitrate, frame rate and codec. Resolution alone cannot tell you whether a video will fit. Check the file size on your phone before uploading.

Estimate size from bitrate

As a rough example, 4K video recorded at 50 megabits per second uses about 375 MB per minute. At 100 megabits per second it uses about 750 MB per minute. These are examples, not fixed iPhone or Samsung settings; actual files vary.

The calculation is bitrate in megabits per second × seconds ÷ 8 to get approximate megabytes. Audio and file overhead add a little more.

What the current beta accepts

Share the Snaps currently limits each uploaded file to 300 MB. At 50 Mb/s that is roughly 48 seconds of video; at 100 Mb/s, roughly 24 seconds. Leave some margin for audio and overhead. The free account’s 2 GB total storage is shared across its albums, photos and videos.

For a long at-bat or play, trim to the moment you want to share or export a smaller copy. Check the resulting file size before selecting it for upload.

Keep your original

When you trim or compress a clip, keep the original on your phone or in your own backup. The shared album is a convenient collection for your group, and free beta albums are stored for 90 days.

After uploading, wait for the upload to finish and verify that the full clip appears. If browser playback is unsupported for its format, try downloading the file to play on a compatible device.

A simple place to start

For a 300 MB upload cap, check the actual file size rather than judging a clip only by its length or 4K label.
